Pushing Yourself With Health Club Equipment
There's an old saying that goes a little like this: "You have to put more work in to gain more out of it." Whilst it applies to many things, that phrase is especially useful in your health club's gym. After all, when you're using health club equipment for gains in your personal strength and fitness, you can never be too aware of how important it is to ensure that you're putting as much effort in as possible in order to see the best results.
Go to any weights room and you'll often find that many of the beginner strength-trainers will be using weights that are too easy for them. As a result, they'll either be doing too many reps, or not pushing their physical limits enough to see satisfactory gains. When focussing on muscle gain, the muscle tissue itself must become strained in order for the body to rebuild it and for it to grow. To put it simply: if you're not lifting the hardest weight you can lift, then your muscles won't grown as much as they can possibly grow.
This can serve as a little bit of an eye-opener for some people, as many gym members are untrained in the usage of the health club equipment and will therefore gamble at how best they should be using it. Either that, or if they're not using free weights, then too many beginners hoping to gain muscle will use resistance machines alone; these only benefit your low-level muscle growth and toning.
The first two things you need to bear in mind when you next go to your gym are to: work out what the hardest weight-to-lift is that will fit into your current set pattern, and to also ensure that you're in a state of mind that allows you to fully push you to physical performance capacity. Not only will this improve your performance at a much faster rate, but you will also see both mental and physical gains in the way that you train.
Weights aside, it's also important to use the power of mind-over-body to ensure that you're completely pushing yourself during cardio exercises. It's all too easy to quit after only doing half of your allotted time on the treadmill (according to your fitness plan). If you had a personal trainer, then you would undoubtedly run further due to your body's natural tendency to prove itself when under pressure. If you don't have a personal trainer, then a quick hint is to use a personal music player whilst running or cycling, as your favorite song can really help add an extra mile or to push you for the last few minutes of your cardio workout.
If you don't have a personal trainer, and you're new to the gym, then it really is a good idea to set up an appointment with one. Not only will your knowledge of the equipment you'll be using increase, but your fitness plan will likely be improved, and your motivation and willingness to continue exercising is almost guaranteed to see some kind of gain.
